Universal Carrier Tracks and Running GearFighting 48th, 1/48 scale
FirstLook Can you imagine assembling after-market track links for a Universal Carrier in any scale, let alone 1/48? It would be the stuff of nightmares. Well, thanks to Fighting 48th you can sleep easy, as they have produced a brilliant replacement for Tamiya's 1/48 scale Universal Carrier with each track supplied as a single, completed run! Fighting 48th's Universal Carrier tracks and running gear comprises 12 parts in translucent resin. Tamiya's Carrier is a nice little kit but the tracks are indisputably crude with over scale and oversimplified track links. As a result, the drive sprocket is also a very poor representation with far too few drive teeth.
Fighting 48ths parts are totally in scale and accurate. They are manufactured directly from CAD data using modern Rapid Prototyping Technology. This seems to be a bit of a black art, but the results are truly spectacular. Each track run is cast onto a narrow circumferential casting strip. This can easily be removed with a sharp hobby knife. The drive sprockets, idler wheels and inner road wheels are simply secured in place with super glue, then the kit is completed per instructions. Comparison with Tamiya's kit parts is striking.
Fighting 48th's Universal Carrier tracks and running gear will make an immediate and very noticeable improvement to Tamiya's kit for minimal effort. This is a genuine limited edition offering, with each set made to order, so get in while they are still available! Highly Recommended. Thanks to Fighting 48th for the review sample
